Behind YOMI
"IT STARTS WITH THE FIRST WOMEN, THESE INITIAL MOMENTS OF CONSCIOUS OBSERVATION AND CAPTIVATION..."
“YOMI is deeply connected to the first women I encountered in my life. These early moments of conscious observation and fascination within their eyes, their posture, and ultimately, the way they carry themselves in the world. And this lingering question: how does she know? This ineffable quality, le "mystère féminin". YOMI has grown from this, from the desire to express it.
YOMI’s roots are in Brussels, Belgium, my hometown, where the first ideas, words, and designs came together. This “gestational phase” began in 2020, initially on my own, and then with a designer for several months who helped translate concepts into digital drawings and later into actual prototypes. We started collaborating with Porto, Portugal, but soon expanded our search for mills, suppliers, and manufacturers across Europe, particularly in northern Italy and Bucharest, Romania, where we found an excellent tailoring manufacturer.
In 2021, Dimitri (my husband, Founder & Creative Director of ARK/8) and I decided to move to London to build our brands. We finally relocated in the summer of 2022, where we are still based today, and officially founded YOMI in November 2022."
